Catch-and-shoot timing in NBA 2K27
Catch-and-shoot and off-dribble releases are effectively two different shots. Measuring them together produces averages that fit neither.
Measure them separately
| Shot type | What varies | Sample size | Tuning note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wide-open catch-and-shoot | Least variance | 20 | Use as your reference baseline |
| Contested catch-and-shoot | Defender proximity | 20 | Shot selection matters more than tuning |
| Off-dribble pull-up | Dribble-to-shot transition | 20 | Often needs a slower tempo band |
| Stepback | Animation family | 20 | Tune per family if at all |
Common mistakes
- Averaging across shot types and concluding the script is inconsistent.
- Tuning against contested attempts, which punishes selection, not timing.
- Switching jumpshots mid-sample, which invalidates the whole run.
Frequently asked questions
Why do my catch-and-shoot greens outnumber my pull-ups?
The transition out of a dribble changes your sweep start. Measure and tune pull-ups as their own condition.
Should I use one assist profile for both?
Only if your measured counts are similar. When they differ meaningfully, separate profiles perform better.
