Controller drift and stick consistency for Rhythm Shooting
Tempo-based shooting punishes an inconsistent stick more than timing-based shooting ever did. A worn stick or a light drift produces exactly the scattered misses people attribute to software.
Testing your controller
- Use the console's own controller test or a stick visualiser to check for resting drift.
- Sweep the right stick slowly and watch for dead zones or jumps in the reading.
- Compare against a second controller if you have one.
- Test through the Zen and directly, to see whether the reading changes.
Improving sweep consistency
- Use the same grip and the same finger for every shot attempt while you are measuring.
- Sweep at a deliberate, repeatable speed rather than as fast as possible.
- Practise fifty sweeps without shooting, just watching the tempo feedback.
- Replace a controller with measurable drift rather than tuning around it.
Where Peak fits
A tempo assist can smooth some variance, and we will not pretend it removes the effect of a worn stick. Peak's guidance is to fix the hardware first, because software compensation for a drifting stick is unstable by nature.
Frequently asked questions
Can controller drift ruin Rhythm Shooting?
Yes. Tempo-based shooting reads your stick sweep, so drift or dead zones translate directly into inconsistent releases.
Does a script fix a worn controller?
No. It may mask small variance, but replacing the hardware is the reliable fix.
Should I test the controller through the Zen?
Test both ways. A difference between the two points at the connection or the configuration rather than the stick.
