Off the catch versus off the dribble in NBA 2K27
The same jumpshot behaves differently depending on how you got into it. Treating both cases with one value is the most common reason a configuration works in practice and fails in a game. Updated September 11, 2026.
The practical differences
| Case | Gather | Common failure | Tuning note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Catch and shoot | Fast, predictable | Rushing the sweep | Slightly slower sweep, stable offset |
| Off the dribble | Variable by dribble move | Inconsistent gather timing | Sample per move, not globally |
| Step-back | Longer, backwards momentum | Late releases | Separate reference from stationary |
| Movement three | Momentum-dependent | Scattered results | Measure at game speed only |
How to sample this properly
- Take twenty catch-and-shoot attempts and log them.
- Take twenty off one specific dribble move and log them separately.
- Compare directions before changing anything.
- Tune the worse case only, then re-check the better case has not regressed.
Frequently asked questions
Can one value cover both cases?
Often it can, if your tempo is consistent. Where it cannot, tune the harder case and accept a small loss on the easier one.
Which case should I practise more?
Off the dribble, because it has more variance and shows up more often in Rec and Park.
