NBA 2K27 contact dunk families and why they need separate tuning
The most useful thing we learned in launch week is that a single global dunk assist value cannot be right. Windows differ by family.
Families and behaviour
| Family | Observed window | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Two-hand power | More forgiving since Sept 9 | Best starting point for tuning |
| One-hand power | Tighter under contact | Slower assist |
| Reverse finishes | Longer gather | Separate value |
| Baseline finishes | Variable by approach angle | Sample last |
Tuning order
- Tune two-hand power first; it is the most forgiving.
- Then one-hand, with a slower value.
- Then reverse and baseline finishes, one at a time.
- Log each family separately with the date.
Credit to 2K
Family-specific windows are more work to tune, but they are also more honest: you can tell why a dunk failed. That legibility is a genuine improvement in 2K27.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use one dunk value?
You can, but you will lose the tighter families. Per-family values are noticeably more consistent.
Did dunk windows change during launch week?
Yes. We measured family-specific tuning on September 8 and 9, holding steady on September 10.
How do I know which family I triggered?
Watch the animation and match it to your dunk package. Log the name you use so your notes stay consistent.
